Seiden Law Secures Court Order Compelling Deposition of Cathay Bank Executive in Han Matter
Seiden Law LLP has secured a court order compelling the deposition of a Cathay Bank Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager in Youge Venture Capital Limited Liability Company, et al v. Xueyuan Han, pending before the Commercial Division of the New York Supreme Court.
Han is the founder and controller of the Hanfor organization, which at its height managed approximately $13 billion in assets in China before his fraudulent conduct was exposed in a 2018 government crackdown. Han fled to New York, where Seiden Law sued him in December 2022 on behalf of 93 plaintiffs, alleging he looted over $1 billion in investor funds and diverted them to accounts he exclusively controls, including in New York. Plaintiffs collectively lost at least $50 million in the fraud.
On July 29, 2026, after the close of fact and expert discovery, Justice James E. d’Auguste granted Plaintiffs’ motion to compel the deposition of Mandy Wong, a Cathay Bank Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager. The Court found the deposition discoverable because Wong’s production of over 4,000 documents showed she was Han’s primary banker at Cathay Bank, where Han maintained 10 bank accounts and initiated millions of dollars in wire transfers. The Court noted that Plaintiffs’ efforts to trace the flow of funds into and out of Han’s Cathay accounts fell within the broad scope of discovery.
This order is critical to Plaintiffs’ prosecution of their claims. Wong’s deposition will be essential to understanding Han’s complex financial network, including the purpose and legitimacy of the offshore companies and personal accounts used to move money from China into the United States.
The Seiden Law team on this matter is led by Amiad Kushner (Lead Attorney), together with MarcAnthony Bonanno, Olivia Huang, and Xintong (Tony) Zhang.
